At Seniors Helping Seniors® Asheville, we have a passion for meeting the needs of seniors in a way that provides both dignity and a sense of camaraderie. Our owner Robert Patterson firmly believe we can do that by serving seniors in our community, which includes: Asheville, Hendersonville, Arden, and surrounding areas.
About Seniors Helping Seniors® Asheville
Robert Patterson, owner, and operator of Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home care services for Asheville, NC, serving Western North Carolina seniors in Buncombe County, Henderson County, and Transylvania County, has personal experience with the value of compassionate senior care.
"I understand how important this is because I've been through it myself."
Before opening the local Seniors Helping Seniors® center serving Asheville, Hendersonville, Black Mountain, Arden, and Brevard, Robert, and his family had the responsibility of caring for his aging mother, who lived alone in Florida, far from the rest of the family. "She wanted to remain independent, and stay in her own home." So Robert and his siblings arranged for someone to help with cleaning and housekeeping. Then, as she needed more assistance, they expanded the home care services to include shopping, meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation, and, most importantly, companionship.
When she passed away last November at the age of 95, Robert felt lucky that they had found such caring people to provide these services.
"My mother's happiness in her last months was proof to me that compassionate care, especially from a peer, is second to none."
As a Medicare-card-carrying senior himself, Robert also looks at home-care services with a personal eye, wanting to make sure they're delivered in a way that he would want for himself.
Before his retirement in 2005, Robert was responsible for Bank of America’s Corporate Real Estate transactions, in Charlotte, NC. His group’s function was to oversee the execution of real estate facilities transactions that meet the Bank’s occupancy needs while minimizing occupancy expense. One of his most notable transactions received the “2003 Global Innovator’s Award” from CoreNet Global, the Corporate Real Estate International Association, and was profiled in Fortune Magazine as “one of the biggest real estate sale and leaseback deals ever.”
Prior to his 11-year bank experience, Robert served at the Office Development Partner of Faison Associates, also in Charlotte, for 13 years. During that time he coordinated the development and leasing of 10 office buildings totaling over five million square feet.
Throughout those years Robert was active in the Charlotte community, with board memberships in the Arts & Science Council, Charlotte World Affairs Council, A Child’s Place, Museum of the New South, Dilworth Little League, Sports Car Club of America, WFAE-FM public radio, and the Dean Rusk Advisory Council of International Studies at Davidson College. In 2003 he was appointed by the Mecklenburg County Commission to the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Commission and served two years as Chairman.
In addition to his family, Robert’s passions have included amateur sports car race driving for 20 years and coaching youth baseball. For five years he ran a baseball summer day camp for 120 little leaguers during two-week vacations from the bank.
Robert has a BA in Economics from the University of Notre Dame, where he played varsity baseball and an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago. He and his wife, former Mayor Pro Tem and four-term Charlotte City Council member Cyndee Patterson, have three children and five granddaughters.
